Performing a Serial Trace
Perform the following steps to create a serial trace from Liebert UPS Monitor 3.2 monitoring one or more UPS and collect the relevant log files for providing diagnositc data.
  1. Stop the monitoring software. To do this, right click on the small Liebert icon in the system tray (in the lower right hand corner of the screen) and select Exit.

  2. From Start -> All Programs -> Liebert UPS Monitor 3.2, select Advanced Options. On the window that loads, check Trace Serial Data and press OK.

  3. From Start -> All Programs -> Liebert UPS Monitor 3.2, select Data Collector Properties. On the Events tab, make sure event logging is checked and note the location nominated for storing log files.  On the Data tab, make sure logging is enabled and "Always log data that includes alarms or warnings" is checked and note the location nominated for storing data files.  Press OK to save the settings.

  4. Start Liebert UPS Monitor 3.2 as you would normally.

  5. If possible, duplicate the condition you want to monitor or wait until the condition occurs.  A serial trace collects a lot of data.  If the trace will be running for more than an hour, make sure there is plenty of free disk space available.

  6. After the required condition is captured, stop the software, go to Advanced Options and uncheck "Trace Serial Data", change settings on the Data Collector Properties window as required, then start the software again.

  7. In C:\Program Files\PNX Pty Ltd\Liebert UPS Monitor 3.2, you will find a file (or files) called SerialCOM?.log where the ? is the number of the serial port used.  These are the serial trace log files required for diagnostics.

  8. In the folder location noted above for logging events, there will be one or more files with a .log extension.  These are the event log files required for diagnostics.

  9. In the folder location noted above for logging data, there will be one or more files with a .upd extension.  These are the data log files required for diagnostics.

  10. Collect all of the files in steps 7, 8, and 9 and forward to the person diagnosing your problem.
